The Meineke Car Care Bowl was started by Raycom Sports, based out of Charlotte, N.C. It is now operated as part of Charlotte Collegiate Football, a non-profit corporation that also operates the ACC Football Championship in Charlotte in 2010 and 2011.

About the ACC Championship Game

After adding Miami and Virginia Tech to the conference in 2004, the Atlantic Coast Conference welcomed Boston College in 2005 as its 12th member institution. With the expanded conference, the ACC created two divisions, the Atlantic and Coastal, and pitted the champions of each in the Inaugural Atlantic Coast Conference Championship Game on December 3, 2005 in Jacksonville, Florida. Each year, the championship game determines the Conference Champion as well as the recipient of the ACC’s automatic berth into the Bowl Championship Series.
